Janis recently visited New Zealand for the first time as the associate artist for the Melbourne competitors at the Gisborne International Music Competition. The Gisborne Rotary Club, competition managers and associated community offered a warm welcome and a smooth running event. The music was taken seriously, but there was plenty of fun too - surfing lessons, a busking competition, BBQ, etc. The War Memorial Theatre and Lawson Field Theatre each boast a beautiful Bosendorfer grand piano and Janis enjoyed shuttling between the venues on a hired bicycle.
The repertoire of the Melbourne contingent included concertos by Sibelius, Saint-Saens, Desenclos and Rosauro.
